National Wellness Week: on Social Health

Each day during SAMHSA‘s National Wellness Week, we are looking at one of the Eight Dimensions of Wellness.

Today we look at Social Health – Developing a sense of connection, belonging, and a well-developed support system.

People who attended our September Action Group meeting shared a number of great ideas about improving our social health:

  • Trust and share with a special person.
  • Finding persons for mutual support.
  • Making friends through support groups.
  • Contributing to one’s environment and community.
  • Make a list of family, friends, and peers who are supportive and positive.
  • Make one connection per day by calling, emailing or visiting a friend or family member.
  • Join a book club or support group.
  • Volunteer!
  • Visit a neighbor.
  • Have a smile on your face to encourage others and give them hope.
