Lunch, Listen and Learn about the Great Michigan Read, Annie’s Ghosts

The Friends of the Cadillac Wexford Public Library are teaming up with Northern Lakes CMH to present a Lunch, Listen and Learn program to recognize the 2013-2014 Great Michigan Read, Annie’s Ghosts: A Journey Into a Family Secret, by journalist and Detroit native Steve Luxenberg.

Annie’s Ghosts is about a son who learns after his mother’s death about the existence of his mother’s sister. In uncovering Annie’s story he learns more about other family secrets, the history of state hospitals, the Michigan mental health system, the legal system, and his family’s journey to America.

Featured speakers will include Beverly Preston-Weekley, Certified Peer Support Specialist at Northern Lakes CMH. Beverly had a 20-year career with General Motors before moving up north. Along her life’s journey she learned how a traumatic incident during her teen years, followed by a hospital stay, affected her life.

The luncheon program will be held Saturday, February 15, 2014, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Lakeside Charlie’s (M-115 and M-55) in Cadillac. Tickets are available at the door for $12 for Cadillac Wexford Public Library Friends and $15 for Non-Members, and includes buffet lunch, soft/drink/coffee, and dessert. Non-Members will automatically be enrolled for a one-year Friends membership. For information call Rosemary at (231) 876-3246.
