GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Assumes primary administrative responsibility and authority for six (6) Adults with Developmental Disabilities in a specialized residential home, under the supervision of the Residential Services Supervisor (RSS).  Responsible for maintaining the 24-hour operation of the home and directing the activities of the residential care home staff in providing training, maintaining care and safety, and assuring the rights of persons living in the home.  Responsibilities will also include maintaining relationships between NLCMHA and ancillary support organizations; and advocating for residents of the home. 

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS (listing Position Specific functions first):

  • Assume responsibility with consultation of the RSS, in matters of staff recruitment and hiring, staff scheduling, and supervising, evaluating staff work performance.
  • Work with residential staff to assure the home operates within the goals of the program.
  • Consult and meet with the RSS on program operational and resident issues.
  • Maintain the program in concert with all policies, procedures, guidelines, and/or legal commitments to consumers as required by the Mental Health Code, Department of Human Services Licensing Guidelines, NLCMHA, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Work with the assigned Support Coordinators and other Interdisciplinary Team Members on program and individual concerns including development and implementation of Person-Centered Plans.
  • Monitor and assist staff in the development, implementation, documentation, and regular review of an individual’s Person- Centered Plan.
  • Assure transportation for persons living in the home to programmatic and necessary personal activities and appointments as well as to and from places of employment, day program, etc. as defined in the Person-Centered Plan.
  • Assure that medical or dental needs are identified and are met according to the Interdisciplinary Team recommendations and recognized agency procedure.
  • Assure for implementation of the preventative maintenance plan; assure that the home is maintained in good repair including housekeeping and grounds care. Complete minor home repairs. 
  • Assure regular staff contact with the individuals’ day program staff, as appropriate and identified in the Person-Centered Plan.
  • Assure that all reports are submitted to the appropriate agencies, groups and individuals in a timely manner. This includes NLCMHA employee time sheets, mileage and gas logs, purchase orders, etc. 
  • Foster professional development of staff through in-service education and through planning, conducting and participating in workshops.
  • Maintain sufficient direct contact with the persons living in the home, their families (or other responsible party, i.e. guardian), and to be knowledgeable concerning individual needs and capabilities.
  • Represent the agency to the community, in advocacy issues, bridging relationships, and providing information.
  • Assure the preparation of menus/meals is nutritionally adequate, in consultation with the physician, nurse, and dietician where appropriate.
  • Assume primary responsibility for assuring the administration of prescribed medication and storage in a safe and acceptable manner; assist in its administration when necessary.
  • Assist in crisis intervention both day and evening hours. Will assume responsibility that after-hours crisis is contacted appropriately. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of high school education with proof of diploma/certificate.
  • Minimal one (1) year experience working in the human services or related field.

POSITION SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Be in good physical condition, to include passing a physical examination and checklist at employment and a negative TB test.
  • Successful completion of all training modules or proof of equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be of good moral character and able to assure the welfare and safety of the persons living in the home.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds, remain on feet for long periods of time, bend, stoop, kneel, and twist as necessary in the care of the individuals and the home in which they work.
  • Must be able to assign, supervise, and evaluate the work of Residential Care Aides.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and coordinate service delivery to individuals of the home.
  • Must be able to meet all job requirements as listed in the Position Description for Residential Care Aide.
  • Must participate in and successfully complete 16 hours of training annually, designated or approved by the Dept. of Human Services Licensing Division that is relevant to the home’s admission policy and program statement, OR must complete 6 credit hours at an accredited college or university annually in an area that is relevant to the home’s admission policy and program statement.
  • Must obtain training and maintain certification in CPR and Basic First Aid.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to meet agency policies and procedures.
  • Consistent with exempt salaried positions be willing to adjust schedule, consistent with agency practice, to meet the needs of assigned individuals.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL ABILITIES

  • This position may require irregular hours. 
  • This position may require travel by personal vehicle if an agency vehicle is not available.

NEW HIRE SIGN ON INCENTIVE:

  • $1,000 will be given to employees in two payments: $500 after six months, $500 after one year.
  • Employee must remain in the original position they were hired in for the duration and be in good standing to be eligible.
