Recipient Rights Specialist (Cadillac location)
Requirements of Position – Bachelor’s degree, preferably in human services, social science or law. Experience in complaint resolution, investigation, investigative report writing, compliance monitoring, training, and advocacy is required. One-year experience providing Recipient Rights protection services in a Community Mental Health Services Program or Licensed Psychiatric Hospital or Unit or comparable experience preferred. Must have completed or have the ability to successfully complete initial and ongoing training in recipient rights protection from the State of Michigan. Must be able to impartially and effectively obtain, analyze, and describe relevant facts and correctly apply statute, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards of care. Training and experience using forensic interviewing and evidence analysis is preferred. Working knowledge of the public mental health system and disability law necessary. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills are essential. Competency in word processing and basic data entry skills are necessary.
Position Responsibilities - Under the supervision of the Director of the Office Recipient Rights and as a team member of the Office of Recipient Rights, provide services to promote and protect the legal rights of all individuals served by or under contract with the Authority. Receive complaints and reports of apparent or suspected rights violations, investigates or intervenes in response, writes investigative reports, and recommends and obtains remedial action. Monitor service providers, train and provide consultative advice to provider staff. Provide information, referral, and advocacy services to recipients, family members, guardians, and the community at large. Assist the Recipient Rights Officer in ensuring that the Authority’s rights protection system operates at a uniformly high standard in compliance with statute and the department. This position has no clinical service or supervisory responsibilities. This position is based out of the Cadillac office but frequently involves fieldwork within or outside the Authority’s geographic service area as assigned.

Working Conditions – This position may require irregular hours. Must be able and willing to occasionally use personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement.
